Can I Really Make a Difference? CARBON, and Living Sustainably in DR

Updated: 5 days ago

Yes, you can. A lot of people talk about living "green". Carbon, for example.

There is a LOT of hype out there. Billionaires crying about carbon while they fly their private jets and sail mega-yachts.

Using gallon of gas puts about 5.5 pounds of carbon into the atmosphere.

We, on the other hand, easily capture 4,000 pounds of carbon every year with our trees, plantings, gardens. That's equal to more than 700 gallons of gasoline.

Living in one of our villas and producing lots of organic food, at same time creating tons of plant waste...which contains 45% carbon taken out of the atmosphere.

We compost all the material taken from our plants and trees, hundreds of pounds each month.

It gets recycled using compost. Very little work. Nature breaks down the compostin the tropics, 12 months a year. The carbon gets "sequestered" for years.

All the tree pruning -- tons of branches-- likewise gets composted. Hundreds of pounds of coconuts (after you drink the sweet coconut water!) take years to decompose and return the soil.

All of this is taking carbon from atmosphere and putting it in the soil.

Our perimeter walls are covered with bougainvillea and ivy. This adds tons of plant mass permanently saved, carbon captured.

Trees grow fast in tropics, 12 months a year, and this takes tons of carbon out of the atmosphere.
