Want Your Own Backup Water Supply In DR?

All of our properties have public water (from CORAAPLATA, the government water company. It's clean (but not drinkable) and reasonably priced, about $8 to $12 per month.

But if you're growing food you may want to water the plants a few times a week. Also, it's always good to have your own clean, independent supply. You can have a villa that is sustainable, eco-friendly, with solar electricity and independent water source while living in paradise!

We set up our villas for rainwater collection. All have large (5000 to 8000 gallon) underground concrete cisterns. They are sealed against contamination. Some have a separate cistern for public water and another for rainwater collection, each with its own pump and control. We also do rooftop tanks (300-500 gallons) to get you through any short-term electric outages.

Puerto Plata / North Coast DR gets over 4 feet (1.2 meters) of rain each year.

A clean concrete roof (usually covered with cement tiles or sealed with white silicone) provides clean water, perfect for irrigating plants. For household use of rainwater, we install filtration systems that are easy and economical to use. They include some or all of: chlorine, sediment filter, UV Filter (kills bacteria and virus), reverse osmosis filter (removes all contaminants: bacteria, virus, chemicals, etc) and carbon filters for "polishing" the drinking water. The purified water tastes great!
